Healing timeline

What to expect, week by week

Healing varies by skin, placement, aftercare, and how your body responds. This timeline helps you plan, but it is not a guarantee.

  1. 1

    Day 0–3

    Fresh tattoo

Expect redness and warmth. The area may feel tight, tender, or slightly swollen. The surface often weeps fluid in the first days.

Safety note: follow your artist’s aftercare steps exactly. If swelling spreads, pain escalates quickly, or you have fever, contact a clinician.

  2. 2

    Day 4–10

    Drying and flaking

Color may look duller under dry skin. You’ll likely notice flakes and mild itch as the top layer regenerates.

Safety note: don’t pick, scrub, or soak. Over-handling can pull ink and disrupt healing.

  3. 3

    Week 2–3

    Settling

Most surface shedding should be finished. The tattoo may still feel slightly rough or look “soft” before it stabilizes.

Safety note: keep washing gentle and short, and apply only the aftercare product your artist recommended. Too much product can clog healing pores.

  4. 4

    Week 4–6

    Apparent heal

The tattoo often looks more settled and clearer. Some scarring risk is reduced once deeper layers are fully repaired.

Safety note: healing isn’t fully done for everyone. If your skin stays persistently red, hot, or irritated, seek medical advice.

  5. 5

    Week 6–12+

    Long-term maturation

Ink and color continue to mature beneath the surface. Small changes in tone can still occur.

Safety note: sun exposure can impact long-term appearance. Use protection once your artist says it’s safe.

Tattoo process

A hygiene-first workflow, from consult to aftercare

Every tattoo is different. Our goal is clarity at each step, so you know what to expect and how to care for your skin during healing.

  1. Consultation & design mapping

We talk through placement, size, style direction, and references. Then we map the design onto your body for scale and flow. If anything needs adjustment, we align it before the procedure.

  2. Hygiene-first setup

We prepare your station with clean, single-use where appropriate, and we follow strict sterilization and barrier practices. You can ask questions any time—we keep it straightforward.

  3. Procedure (in stages if needed)

The session begins with final checks for comfort and positioning. For larger pieces, we work in stages. You’ll be guided on breaks and aftercare steps right away.

  4. Immediate care guidance

After the tattoo is completed, we share clear instructions for cleaning, moisturizing, and what to avoid. Healing depends on your skin and your routine, not on luck.

  5. Follow-up & expectations

We help you track normal changes during healing and adjust your plan if something looks off. If you’re unsure, contact us early rather than waiting.

Expectation & disclaimer

Healing varies. Results are not guaranteed.

Your skin, lifestyle, and aftercare affect how the tattoo or permanent makeup heals. We’ll guide you through aftercare, but we can’t promise identical outcomes from person to person.

  • We review your goals and placement during consultation, then we confirm the final plan together.
  • You are required to follow the aftercare instructions from your provider to support proper healing.
  • During healing, colors can look different day by day. The final look takes time.

Safety note: If something feels wrong during healing, contact your provider promptly. This is not a medical service.
